Over the past few months, I’ve been creating a series of Jewellery Making workshops called Jewellery Jams.
I wanted to provide a space for people who were curious about making their own jewellery, in a relaxed environment that allows for no-rules exploration and play with shapes, colours, finishes and combinations along with basic assembly techniques.
The session is 2 hours long and the format comprises of a quick introduction to acrylic, the need to know properties of the material and jewellery assembly techniques. Attendees can then go to town selecting colours, shapes, finishes and jewellery findings to come up with their own personal haul of pieces.
The extensive variety of shapes provided are all cut from the negative space of my larger projects, ensuring that I use as much of the acrylic sheet as possible, reducing the amount of waste that gets sent to the recyclers. I also provide special packaging for the day for your pieces, cut from recycled cardboard.
The majority of attendees leave with a minimum of 5 jewellery pieces, I’m consistently blown away with how people turn up and interpret the shapes and colours so differently. I love seeing not only what people create, but also seeing people indulge in 2 hours of pure creativity that is so often forgone as a priority in our busy lives.
The shapes and colours are forever being added to and changing as my other projects evolve. And seasonal charms are always included if the attendee wants to explore themes over abstract shapes. This has meant that some attendees have come to every jam so far and left with a completely different looking set of makes each time.
My regular venue for the Jewellery Jam workshop is The Threadmill in the picturesque Peak District village of Hayfield, but I can also take the sessions on the road within a 90 minute drive of the High Peak. Jewellery Jam workshops can be set up in different venues so long as tables and chairs are provided, including therapeutic and corporate settings.
If you're considering hosting a session at your workplace, event or venue, please do get in touch for a quote. It’s an ideal way to escape a screen and indulge in some mindful activity where there is no real pressure on the outcome other than to give yourself space to create.
