Sarah Millican and the Not Today Earrings
There are moments that take you by surprise and add a touch of magic to your day. One such moment for me was when the brilliant comedian Sarah Millican followed me on Instagram. As a huge fan of her work, this alone made my day. But the story gets even better. I soon discovered that she followed me because she was going to tag me in a story where she was wearing my Not Today earrings in the gorgeous perspex Coral colour.
Sarah Millican is one of my favourite comedians. I highly recommend her audio book, which is filled with her signature wit and read by her. It's a must-read / listen for anyone in need of a good laugh and some heartfelt moments.
The Not Today earrings have a special backstory. They started as a commission when I first got my laser cutter. The original design was in silver and covered in sparkling rhinestones. Over time, the design evolved, and now the Not Today earrings come in a stunning Coral colour. This vibrant shade has become one of my favourites amongst the whole Perspex range, it just shouts summer.
When Sarah tagged me in her post, it led to a flurry of new followers on my Instagram account. Her influence was hugely appreciated when instagram is feeling like a slog lately, and I was really grateful to see new people discovering my work. I was so touched that Sarah's friend had bought the earrings for her and that she credited me in her instagram Story. It was a small act of kindness that made my day.
The Not Today earrings are more than just a piece of jewellery; they are literally. a statement. They come with a choice of stainless steel or sterling silver ear wires, making them suitable for people with different metal sensitivities. Many of my designs come with a choice of ear wires ensuring they are comfortable to wear.
Seeing my Not Today earrings worn by someone like Sarah is immensely gratifying. In addition to Sarah Millican, my earrings have been worn by the hilarious Kiri Pritchard-McLean and have been retweeted by the iconic Kathy Burke. It's wonderful to know that my designs resonate with with funny women that I respect and admire.
After Sarah’s post, I found myself firing up the laser cutter to create another run of the Not Today earrings. Each pair is made with care in my Peak District studio, hand finished and housed on bespoke packaging that I make myself from recycled materials in a big to reduce waste. All the negative space is packed with shapes that go into my Jewellery Jam stash. Read how you can come and play with the shapes to make some zero waste jewellery of your own on my courses and events page.
I love that my earrings can bring a bit of joy and fun into people's lives, that's why I do what I do. The Not Today earrings are more than just an accessory; they're a reminder to take life a little less seriously and to find humour in everyday moments. Whether you're having a tough day or just need a little pick-me-up, these earrings are the perfect way to add a bit of cheer to your outfit. I like to wear mine around the kids...
In conclusion, the story of the Not Today earrings and their journey from a custom commission to an accessory of famous comedian is something I never imagined. It was a true delight to see Sarah Millican wearing them.
