Loaded with a variety of zero-waste shapes, each cut from the negative space of larger acrylic projects. The aim was to encourage attendees to feel free to play and explore all the colors and shapes, with no fixed rules on what to make. For two enjoyable hours, we set aside spreadsheets and deadlines, and just sat and created.
With pliers in hand, all attendees quickly grasped the basics after a brief introduction. Everyone selected their charms from the huge acrylic selection and began assembling shapes and motifs into wearable pieces, as usual, I was blown away with how every person interpreted the materials differently. This is my favourite part of any Jewellery Jam, just seeing how people can be presented with the same array of shapes but produce something completely different.
Lightning bolts, flowers, and hearts emerged as popular motifs, perhaps inspired by the burgeoning springtime outside. From necklaces, to earrings to an anklet - everyone walked away with something to be proud of, along with plenty of gifts for Mother's Day.
Returning to Essence Mediacom, albeit in a different capacity, sparked a moment of reflection for me. Two decades ago, I could never have imagined that my journey would lead me back here, facilitating sessions aimed at nurturing creativity and mental well-being.
