Airstream Photo Booth is another fantastic High Peak Business I've had the pleasure of working with. Suzanne got in touch with me when the Airstream was a tin shell sat on her drive, along with her partner Alistair they had a vision. To turn this Airstream Shell into a beautiful travelling photo booth that can be used for weddings and events bringing a big silver dose of retro America to the venue.
They wanted a sign cutting that could be fixed and removed easily from the roof. Easy eh?.. There is always way more work behind the finished product than you might think.
The first step was research. I got to work looking for suitable fonts that fit with brand vibe as communicated by Suzanne. The font not only needed to look right, It needed to scale proportionally to the desired height and width of the frame, have a retro / art deco feel and Suzanne had a vision of painting it so it looked rusty and lighting it from the back. All these aspects needed to be considered when settling on the final design.
There are plenty of places where you can buy off the peg laser cut acrylic letters. But they are generally offered in a limited number of fonts, sizes and thicknesses. When you are creating and investing in a brand, not to mention adapting the acrylic to fit the brand... often you need to go deeper than an off the peg solution to create the bespoke finish you are after. You need time to consider, ask questions, change your mind even.
There were lots of chats with Suzanne about the fonts (which was great as it's been ace getting to know her and watch the renovation develop) and I provided her with some samples of acrylic in different finishes to trial the paint she was wanting to use to help her decide on the final material.
We then cut a test letter, this allowed them to measure it against the frame and the Airstream so they were 100% sure it was the right proportion before they committed to paying for the full word.
Laser Cutting letters isn't revolutionary, the difference will always be in the choice and service you receive to achieve the nuances that you can't get from off the peg solutions.
If you are a fellow High Peak Business looking for a local High Peak Laser Cutting service - I'm always happy to invite you down to my studio for a cup of tea or coffee and a rummage through my samples as starting point for your idea. And I of course offer the design service you may need to bring that idea to life before the laser cutter is fired up.
